Like any other good habit, we all fall out of routine from time to time. We believe that our self-love and self-care routine is one of the first to be neglected. We stop allowing ourselves enough sleep, overdo or prioritise our work or care more about other people than ourselves. Then, when we look at our overflowing to-do list, we notice that one important item is missing from it: ourselves!
No matter what it means for you to take care of yourself, it is important to take time for yourself and do things that make you happy. Some things are timeless, like reading a good book and getting enough sleep. But sometimes that’s not enough. That’s why we’ve put together a list of simple, practical ideas to help you give yourself what you deserve.
All these tips are simple, don’t take much time, but can make a lot of changes to your mental health.
Write down 3 things you like about yourself or are grateful for
Before you rush off to work or dive into the latest news, take a moment at the beginning of the day and write down three things you like about yourself. Direct your thoughts in a positive direction and become aware of what you are grateful for. Such a positive start to the day can work wonders.
After giving someone a compliment, you automatically feel better yourself. A nice word or praise not only brings happiness to the one they are meant for, but also to the one who gives them! Make that day special for someone.
Treat yourself to the pages of a good book
There is nothing better than detaching yourself from reality and indulging in a good read!
Treat yourself to a bath
Cliché? Yes, but there’s a reason why a “bubble bath” is on every list of “self-love ideas”. Light a light candle, play some soothing music and relax in the bath.
Do you feel too busy because of strong commitments and agreements with others? Remember that “no” is a complete sentence! Learn to say no to things that are not currently on your list of priorities or that burden you with negative feelings. Open up to things that bring you joy and fulfil you!
Go to bed earlier
Sleep is very important for the complete mental health and functioning of the organism. A good night’s sleep is also reflected in your skin, which maintains freshness and radiance.
Wake up early
Waking up even 30 minutes earlier gives you the freedom to not have to frantically prepare for the day. Take time to exercise, be alone with your thoughts or simply enjoy your morning coffee in peace instead of nervously waiting in line for the bus to work. Self-love is also in the little things.
You don’t have to go to a restaurant to sit in the garden and enjoy a meal. Prepare a meal at home and then enjoy it on the patio in the backyard or drive to a nearby picnic area. Changing the scenery helps you slow down, be present in the present moment and enjoy your meal!
Let your imagination run wild
Take time to use your creativity, whatever it is. Get an adult colouring book or try something that has been on your wish list for a long time.
There is nothing wrong with being alone. Don’t feel guilty if she cancels a meeting with someone and uses that time to go for a run, watch a favourite show, go shopping or just relax!
Hopefully these little tips will help you not to forget self-love in your everyday life. It is important that we take care of ourselves and give ourselves the moments of peace we deserve!
